- What Are Zoids?
Zoids are kits that everyone loves to assemble. When you assemble it yourself, it can become a variety of mechanical organisms. However, there are two major differences between Zoids and other plastic models. Those differences are...
- 1: They're plastic model kit that doesn't use glue.
When it comes to plastic model kits, it's normally necessary to use glue, but Zoids are assembly kits, and instead of using glue, they're assembled using rubber caps. This means that anyone can build them without fail, and they come out looking great.
- 2: They're plastic model kits that can move.
Some plastic models move, but most of them are just held up. Zoids are powered from the start, and all mechanisms are designed to move. There are three types of power units, and the actions they perform are just like the real thing.
- Equipped With A Battery-Operated Motor

A small, but powerful motor allows the figure to walk, move its head, and move its limbs and wings. Just one motor can perform 4 ~ 5 actions. All of them are large and powerful.

- Zoid Story
The Zoids planet is far away from Earth. On that planet, there are battle mechas made from metal life forms. They take the form of fearsome dinosaurs, insects, and other industrious creatures. The Helic Republic and the Zenebas Empire are at war, and their battle mecha are also at war with each other. There are forty different types of large and small mechas on the planet.
- Wind-Up Type Power Unit

Moved by a small spring. It's a small mecha power unit, but its actions are still very realistic.

- Let's Get Our Tools Before We Begin Assembling The Zoid
This Is All You Need
Nippers:
These are used to cut the parts off of the runner (the plastic that holds the parts together). You can also use a nail clipper. |
Tweezers:
It can also be used for applying small stickers. |
Cutter:
It's not neceesary to have nippers, but they're helpful. Use this when you're a senior student. |
Paper Files:
A paper file is useful for cleaning the edges of the parts. |
Old Paper:
Making plastic models generates a lot of small scraps and trash, so to avoid your mother's disapproval, put a newspaper under the plastic model. If you're using a cutter, it's best to use a wooden board or a rubber mat. |
- Three Things To Keep In Mind When Building
① Check the parts!
Check the list of parts in the instruction manual to see if any parts are missing.
② Read the instruction manual carefully.
It's understandable that you'd want to start building right away, but first, calm down and carefully read the instructions. Then, follow the instructions and start building.
③ Don't leave any burrs!
When you cut a part from the runner there may be burrs left where you cut it. If you leave these burrs behind, you may not be able to assemble it properly, or it may not work. Use sandpaper to clean them up.
Let's Try Some Simple Modifications!

When it comes to modifications, you might think it's too complicated, so let's take a look at what w ehave. If you have two kinds of mecha, you can start modding right away. How do you do that? Simple, swap one mecha's weapons with the other's. Just by changing the weapon, the mecha will look different, don't you think? This is where the first step of modding begins. Let's give it a try.

Enemy Mecha Replacement Strategy
We already know that Zoids have two types of mecha: Republic and Empire. The Republic mecha are gray in color, while the Empire mecha are red. So, if you get a weapon from the Republic mecha and attach it, it'll look like you've modified it. If you play with your friends' mecha, you'll be able to make all sorts of modifications.
Use the Zoids Remodeling Kits to make your mecha even more awesome!
You can make your mecha even more awesome with the Zoids Remodeling Kit, which allows you to modify your mecha at will. There are kits for small mecha and large mecha, so be careful. Both kits include weapon parts to make your Zoid mecha more powerful.

Now that we've come this far, it's time to paint!
It's said that the funnest part of building a plastic model kit is painting it. So let's challenge ourselves to paint the Zoid and make it look more realistic.
Let's get some tools together! This is all you need!
Brush
Check the list of parts in the instruction manual to see if any parts are missing.
Dish

Rags and Tissues
When you cut a part from the runner there may be burrs left where you cut it. If you leave these burrs behind, you may not be able to assemble it properly, or it may not work. Use sandpaper to clean them up.
The best way to clean up is with a rag.

Cautions On How To Paint
①
Let's Assemble It Once And Then Paint
Let's assemble it once first. Then, look at the kit as a whole, and decide what colors you want and where they should go, then disassemble it again and paint the parts.
②
Don't Paint Moving Parts
This is a common mistake, but if you apply paint to the parts that transmit power, it won't work after it's assembled. Let's be especially careful.
★ Cohesive Painting
The key to cohesive painting is to paint the entire area all at once using a flat brush. If you take a break in the middle of painting, the paint will look uneven, so be careful.
★ Masking
Masking is a technique that helps prevent colors from mixing when painting the same surface with several different colors. The easiest way to do this is to use cellophane tape.
★ Partial Painting
Use a brush to slowly paint small parts like in the picture, and don't rush.
How To Use Spray Cans

Spray paints are useful for applying color to a large surface. However, the color also scatters widely, so be sure to have someone older like your brother or father help you. Also never use spray paint in a room. Spread out a wide sheet of newspaper outside, and use a stick to hold the part in place while spraypainting.
Dioramas Aren't Difficult To Make
What's A Diorama?
A diorama is a stage where the the plastic model plays out a scene. So we'll create a miniature world that looks like it's exactly the same size as the model. It may seem difficult, but you can make your own diorama, and it doesn't have to be complicated. So let's see what you can do.
This is a professional diorama. The combat Zoids mecha look so realistic. The diorama is a world that expands the image of Zoids even further.

① Think About Your Overall Plan
What kind of world would be cool to place your Zoids mecha in? On the battlefield, in the mountains, or out in the wild? First, draw out a plan. It's also a good idea to find images that look similar to your plan.
② Make a sketch!
You don't have to be good at drawing. Just draw a general layout, like a mountain here, a river there, or a fish market here. If you don't, you can get lost in the middle of your project and lose track of what you're doing.
③ Choose Your Materials
Styrofoam is the most common material for dioramas that you might have around. It can be used as a base, and can also be good for making mountains, hills, and other uneven surfaces. Cardboard, newspaper, tissue, glue, cotton wool, etc. are also sufficient.
④ Now Let's Make It!
First, place down a solid board. Otherwise, use styrofoam (it may be a bit big) as a base. Make your mountains, hills, and rivers all around the diorama according to your sketches. You can use a cutter to cut the parts, and you can use other styrofoam pieces to build them up.
⑤ Don't Be Afraid of Failure
No one will get it right the first time. You have to make a ton of mistakes to get better. When you're finished, show it to your friends. Your friends may be able to give you some advice, or they may even become your partners and want to work with you.
⑥ Be Careful When Painting
Take your time and be careful when painting. After painting one color, wait until it has completely dried, and then paint the next color. Large areas should be painted with spray paint, and small areas with a brush.
You Can Make It Even More Realistic By Using Diorama Kits!
Zoids Diorama Base Super DX
If you want to make a really realistic diorama, I recommend the Zoids Diorama Base. As you can see from the picture, the base is designed to look realistic, and also comes with weapons, cranes, and other equipment, so you can convert it into a diorama right away. You can make it look even more realistic by modifying it and adding some colors based on your own vision of how it should look.
