The bridges across the Burnham River were crucial positions that needed to be secured, whether it be for advance or retreat.

Emperor Zenebas, having reclaimed Imperial territory, made an all-out order for his forces to launch an offensive against the Republic. Before the assembled commanders, Zenebas pointed to a specific point on the border. Almehen, the town closest to the Republic's capital, was selected as the border breakthrough point.

ZAC 2042. The Battle for the Bridge at Almehen, said to be the fiercest battle of the Second Central Continent War, began.

Battle for the Border Bridge

The searchlights of the Republican Army's Almehen garrison spotted a group of flying Zoids descending from the night sky. Were they friends, or foes?

"Don't fire. Those wing shapes match up with our Puterasu squadron."

The moment the garrison breathed a sigh of relief, a fierce attack descended on the bridge. It was a surprise attack by airborne Iguan forces, equipped with wings and disguised as Puterasu.

The surprise attack was successful, and the bridge fell into the hands of the Iguan forces. Lt. Col. Frost, commander of the airborne forces who was piloting a red Iguan positioned his subordinates on both sides of the bridge.

"Secure the bridge until the main Kong MK-II force arrives."

However, at dawn, the Republican Army sent a large Gordos force to the north side of the bridge and began a fierce assault. The fighting continued past noon, and Lt. Col. Frost and his men had no time to eat as the second night arrived.

Even as darkness fell over the Burnham River, Frost and his men remained pinned down on the north side of the bridge. Meanwhile, one kilometer south of the bridge, Barigator forces had begun to secretly cross the water. The plan was for the Godos forces to position themselves on the Imperial side, then while they were attracting Frost's attention, recross the bridge and attack Frost's forces from both sides.

But Frost was one step ahead. He'd stationed several of his subordinates on the Imperial side of the river, arranging in advance for them to report immediately if the Republican Army began to cross the river. After receiving that report from his subordinates, Frost made a call over the radio.

"Chopper, Chopper, this is Cardinal. The crocodiles have started crossing the river. Why don't you give them some fireworks."

Seated in the cockpit of a Saicurtis, patrolling the skies above the city was 2nd Lt. Toby Duncan. After receiving the order from Lt. Col. Frost, he plummeted towards the Burnham River. He spotted the Barigators in his searchlight and fired the beam gun. The Barigators sunk to the bottom of the Burnham River in a single shot.

Have The Reinforcements Not Come Yet!?

The Republican Army's fierce attack had been going without pause for 20 hours. One by one, Lt. Col. Frost's brave subordinates, all carefully trained, were being defeated. One after another, they were left exhausted.

"Hang in there! Our Kong troops will arrive at dawn."

Frost crawled around on the ground, encouraging his subordinates. Just before dawn, the Godos troops suddenly vanished without any notice, and the Republic's attack ceased. However, as Frost vigilantly watched ahead, a large force of Cannontortoises appeared before him.

Frost and his surviving subordinates took cover.

The Cannontortoise's assault cannons fired. One after another, the Iguans were blown away. Finally, Frost's red Iguan, which had held on until the end, was struck by a cannon shell and fell to the ground.

"Blow up the bridge before the Imperial army arrives!"

The Republic's engineering corps hastened to plant explosives, but before they could, the Kong MK-IIs, almost like hills in their own right appeared at the foot of the bridge. Even the Cannontortoise forces were no match for the Kong MK-IIs.

The night of fighting had ended, and the morning sun rose over the Burnham River. The border bridge finally belonged to the Imperial Army. Two Kongs gently laid Lt. Col. Frost's beloved Iguan on the riverbank. All Imperial Zoids crossing the bridge at the time halted their march, and the pilots stood in their cockpits.

"Heads, to the right. Salute Lt. Col. Frost!"

The command echoed over the river. However, that voice could no longer reach Lt. Col. Frost.
