- Zoid: Red Horn

Basic Overview

 Red Horn is a fairly powerful Imperial Zoid, built with heavy armor and weaponry in mind. While the standard issue is supposed to be red, the newer Imperial Army seems to mobilize mostly Dark Horn units instead, with most of the red varients being fairly out of date.

History

Organoid Capture Attempt, Episode 4, Rosso

Rosso lead the Desert Arcobaleno Gang to a small colony, hoping to capture Bang's Organoid, Sieg. Both Bang and Irvine shined up to fight the bandits, and while the Shield Liger didn't have the power to take on the Red Horn itself, it instead used its missiles to destroy the ground covering over the natural aquifers. The following eruption of the aquifer left the Red Horn and Command Wolves disabled.


Second Attempt, Episode 8

Rosso once again lead his gang to capture Sieg. This time, however, they took hostages. Though they escaped, the battle commenced. His Red Horn crashed through the Shield Liger's E-Shield, and may have won the fight had they not spotted the Imperial Army approaching, seeking to arrest Rosso. He had no other choice but to give up the chase and disband the Desert Arcobaleno Gang to protect the rest of the group.


Battle of Kronos, Episode 13

Red Horns joined the Imperial Army in invading Kronos Fortress. Unfortunately the base was occupied by sleeper Zoids, and the entire base was detonated to take out a sizable chunk of the invading forces.


Invasion of New Helic City, Episode 18

Red Horns joined the large force invading New Helic City. This situation ended in a temporary armistice while waiting for a surrender declaration, but Prince Rudolph ordered the Empire to retreat before it came to that.


Bandit Group, Episode 28

Red Horns were used by a bandit group who'd been terrorizing a nearby town. After taking medicine that was vital for the children in the orphanage, Bang and Irvine invaded the base to get it back. One Red Horn noticed Irvine scaling the cliff wall behind the base with the medicine in hand and nearly killed him with a missile. Fortunately Bang's Blade Liger was able to snatch it out of the air before it could hit.


McMahon's Mansion, Episode 30, Seepers

Seepers, who'd been pursuing Rudolph's group under the assumption he was an 'imposter' chased them into a forest. There he ran into McMahon, who Seepers had quite a history with causing problems for. McMahon's property was protected due to his trade business, which provded food, materials, ammunition, and more to the Imperial Army. He implored Seepers to turn back and leave them be. Reluctantly, he did.

What McMahon neglected to mention was that he was a former love interests of Moonbay, and took the group in when he saw her characteristic red Gustav. Though he harbored them for a short time, Seepers eventually got fed up with having to back down to McMahon. He challenged his immunity, and attacked his property with his Red Horn and Rev Raptor unit. Unfortunately for Seepers, McMahon's property was protected by many a custom Dark Horn, which made quick work of his ground units. Rosso and Viola used their Storm Sworders to take care of the Black Redlers that were attacking from the skies.


Return of the Prince, Episode 32, Homalev

It was a Red Horn piloted by Homalev and accompanied by several Rev Raptors that finally made contact with the young crowned prince after his disappearance. Homalev quickly took them back to safety.


The Geno Breaker, Episode 47

Red Horns joined the assault against the evolving Geno Saurer. Though there was a massive bombardment against the evolutionary cocoon, they weren't able to damage it.


Organoid Capture Operation, Episode 49

Red Horns were depicted among the Zoids who attacked Dan Freiheit's unit after they'd discovered an Organoid capsule. Prozen lead the force, and they had an overwhelming advantage against the few Godos and the one Command Wolf. However, Dan Freiheit's Command Wolf detonated, taking out the entire force.

- Crusher Horn


 The horn on the head of the nose. The Red Horn is such a heavy Zoid that this weapon packs a powerful punch, able to even break through energy shields to hit the Zoid behind it.

- Surface-to-surface Missile Pod


 The silver weapon on top of the larger red gun. This fires a missile straight ahead.

- Anti-Zoid 3-Barrelled Linear Cannon


 The large gun that's placed on the rear half of the Dark Horn's back. It fires thick cannon shells at the enemy.

 The Red Horn BG is actually more or less the exact same Zoid as the Dark Horn. It has all the same weapons with no real variation, besides the fact that it's still painted red, instead of black and green.

The Village of Nordens, Episode 51

After Bang Freiheit, injured from his battle against Raven ended up in the Village of Nordens, Rease convinced Seepers to go after him She insisted that Bang was a spy who would discover that he'd been extorting the village for money for all these years, and that he'd reveal his secret if he didn't kill him.

This Dark Horn was taken to the village, accompanied by Rev Raptors. Seepers threatened to destroy the village if they didn't hand him over, even though the villagers had turned him away. When Bang showed up in a stolen Rev Raptor, Seepers and his units battled the raptor until it was disabled. Even so, the villagers gathered around Bang's Zoid, insisting they'd protect him. Seepers, against the judgement of his men, decided he would kill Bang even if it cost the lives of the villagers. He was shot down by Moonbay's Gustav before he could.

 This Zoid isn't just a different color scheme but has also been upgraded with additional weaponry. Most notably is the gattling gun assembly on the back, packing two or three additional weapons into one.

History

Stand Off At Red River, Episode 7, Karl

A Dark Horn piloted by Karl Schwarz lead the Imperial Army in a stand off against the Republican Army near Red River. When it was discovered that Fire Bridge, a vital location had been taken out, Schwarz called an order to retreat before Republican reinforcements could arrive.


The Gojulas, Episode 15, Marcus

A Dark Horn piloted by Marcus joined Schwarz's force heading into Republican territory. They were confronted by the Gojulas, which easily devastated their group. Schwarz ordered a retreat, not wanting to risk his unit against the unexpected threat.


March Towards New Helic City, Episode 17, Marcus

The Dark Horn was part of the march towards New Helic carried out by Schwarz and Marcus. While their ground troops drew the attention of the Republican Army, the true threat sailed towards the coast in the form of camouflaged battleships, intending to take over New Helic upon landing.


Kidnapping Of The Prince, Episode 19

Two Dark Horns patrolled the area around the palace. When two Molgas attacked they went to engage, not realizing that the real threat had already slipped past them. Rosso and Viola kidnapped crowned prince Rudolph then escaped the palace.


Ransom, Episode 20, Metternich, Denis, Rot

Rosso escaping with Rudolph wasn't part of Metternich's plan. His group arranged to pay the ransom themselves if Rosso would turn the prince directly over to them. Something didn't sit right with Rosso, however, and when he ran with the prince, the hunt began.


First Geno Saurer Sighting, Episode 21, Brad

Brad, a gang leader happened to be the first person to stumble upon the Geno Saurer. He didn't hesitate in the slightest to challenge the Zoid, but was quickly defeated.


Hunting of Rudolph, Episode 23, Metternich, Denis, Rot

After Rudolph was kidnapped by Raven, he was turned over to Metternich, as Raven had no further use of him. Bang managed to snatch him away from the murderous group, who pursued them in their Dark Horns. At first Irvine distracted them, but when they eventually caught up, they cornered Bang and Rudolph. Luckily, Irvine had been in pursuit. His Command Wolf fired a shot right through the middle of the Dark Horn's side, disabling it long enough for them to escape.


Stinger, Episode 24, Metternich, Denis, Rot

While they were stuck repairing their Dark Horns, Metternich's group was attacked by the mercenary, Stinger. He used a poison gas to disable the group, then pressured them into allowing him in on their deal with the Empire. Stinger would take a 70% cut, and handle Rudolph himself. He had two of the group's Dark Horns follow him through the desert, pretending to be running for his life. This fooled Moonbay into taking him in, thinking she was protecting him.


Stinger - Continued, Episode 25, Metternich, Rot

After Denis had Stinger's Guysack, which he'd been loaned stolen by Bang Freiheit, Rot ended up having to fight the Zoid. He struggled to keep up with its ability to burrow underground, and was eventually tipped over. After Bang reached the main group and tried to save them, Metternich intervened with his own Dark Horn. He threw the Guysack back, and when it landed, Stinger emerged in a custom Saber Tiger that he promptly used to destroy his own Guysack to take care of the problem. Metternich chose to retreat after the appearance of the Blade Liger.


Attack on the Crowned Prince, Episode 33 ~ 34

Several Dark Horns accompanied Lt. Hardin and her custom Iron Kong. She'd been instructed not to allow any 'interruptions' during Prozen's coronation, and took it upon herself to try to destroy him no matter the cost to her own men. In the end they failed to do so.


The Holciard Weapons Plant, Episode 41

Dark Horns accompanied Karl Schwarz and his Iron Kong during their investigation of the Holciard Weapons Plant. They'd received a distress signal that then went silent, and had been unable to establish contact with the base since. Karl and his group also went silent after going there, taken control of by Rease. The Dark Horns didn't feature in these battles, but were present outside the base.


The Geno Breaker, Episode 47

Defense of New Helic City, Episode 59

Several Dark Horns were deployed to New Helic City as part of Karl Schwarz's unit. They engaged the Death Stinger as soon as it surfaced from the magma tunnels, but even these heavily armed Zoids weren't enough to deal damage.


Defense of the Ultra Saurus, Episode 60

The Dark Horns of Schwarz's unit would appear once more on the deck of the Ultra Saurus, fending off the attacking Helcats from Hiltz's forces.


Battle of Eveopolis, Episode 67

When the Ultimate Death Saurer reawakened, it was attacked by the full force of the Empire. Dark Horns and Saber Tigers formed many of the troops, but none of them were able to break through the Death Saurer's armor. It simply walked right past them, not even regarding them as a threat.


Additional Equipment Information

- Hybrid Vulcan


 The primary weapon of the Dark Horn. This weapon fires shots in rapid succession and has quite a good range of motion, able to tilt up and down and swivel.

- Chin Gun*


 In most media, this is a sulfuric acid spray gun, but uhh... that's not very child-friendly to animate, so in the show it's a non-describe chin gun, firing rapid shots instead.

- Dark Horn DVS (Double Vulcan Spec.)

 This is a second generic unit for the Dark Horn, and it's all about doubling up. It has very little color difference, besides having silver horns instead of black. It has additional weaponry from the other standard Dark Horn.

Raven, Episode 42

This Dark Horn was stationed at an Imperial Army base. The base was eventually attacked when an unmanned Redler was driven into the center. In the subsequent chaos, Raven climbed into the cockpit of this Zoid and turned it against the base inhabitants. He easily dealt with the Iron Kongs, then took on Bang and Thoma. Even after Thoma shot off the Vulcans and Bang sliced through the leg, leaving the Dark Horn immobilized, Raven picked up the Vulcan and turned the weapon against them while holding it in the Dark Horn's jaws. Eventually, he opened the cockpit to get a look at the Blade Liger, and when bang reciprocated, showing that it was truly him, Raven snapped out of his trance. He called for Shadow and escaped.

- Double Crusher Horn


 Like the McMahon Spec. the DVS has a second Crusher Horn, smaller and located on the forehead, at the top of the bridge of the nose.

- Double Hybrid Vulcan


 The Double Hybrid Cannons are also carried over. Like the McMahon, it lacks the other equipment that'd typically be on the interior side of the Vulcan. The Linear Cannons remain, attached to the outside of the Vulcan.

- Dark Horn MS (McMahon Spec.)

 This uniquely painted Dark Horn WB belonged to McMahon, a man who worked closely with the Guylos Empire. They sported gold paint instead of most of the silver, along with gold caps. These were actually the first double Vulcan Horns were saw in the series.

Defending McMahon's Mansion, Episode 30

When Seepers brought his military unit consisting of Rev Raptors and his own Red Horn to McMahon's mansion, intent on getting him to surrender Rudolph's group, McMahon didn't respond kindly. He first ordered Seepers out of his home, and when his Zoids still threatened them, he called upon his own Dark Horns. These unique variants were stored in circular underground hangars that spun upwards at the sound of the classical music booming from his loudspeakers. They made quick work of Seeper's Zoids from their platforms.


Additional Equipment Information

- Double Crusher Horn


 These Dark Horns were the first to feature the Double Crusher Horns, with an extra, smaller horn located on the bridge of the nose.

- Double Vulcans*


 This variant has two Hybrid Vulcans installed instead of the regular one. They're missing some of the other Dark Horn equipment that typically sits towards the interior, but still have the Linear Cannons mounted on the outside of the Vulcans.
